Cranial Osteopathy The Osteopathic Practice

This is a subtle form of Osteopathic diagnosis and treatment which uses gentle manipulative pressure at various points throughout the body.

An Osteopath feels for very subtle rhythms that occur in all body tissues, referred to as the 'cranial rhythm'. It takes many years of training for an Osteopath to feel these rhythms. Often concentrating on the head (cranium) and tailbone (sacrum), an Osteopath can detect accumulated stresses in the body.

These are thought to occur due to imbalance of body functions, many disease states, physical and emotional trauma.

Conditions helped by Cranial Osteopathy:

  • Infants and children; birth traumas, colic, digestive problems, insomnia, persistent coughs, colds, glue ear and hyperactivity.
  • Adults; physical trauma (e.g. whiplash), back, neck and headaches, certain digestive problems, sinus problems, stress and insomnia.
